Kids on the Land returns to Josey Pavilion

May 4, 2017 by Administrator

Kids on the Land returned to Dixon Ranches Leo Unit in April. Kids on the Land outdoor environmental programs teach children about the region where they live, connecting them to the land and a more sustainable future. The foundation’s education partners, like Kids on the Land, frequently visit Dixon Ranches for field days to learn about sustainable land management, watershed health, wildlife, native plants, and other subjects. Learn more about school field programs on this page, and check out the gallery below for glimpses into the fun Kids on the Land brought to the Josey Pavilion this spring.

Texas Wildlife Association programs at Dixon Ranches

December 9, 2016 by Administrator

Texas Wildlife Association L.A.N.D.S. recently held outdoor education programs at Dixon Ranches Leo and Bear Creek units. In December, AP Environmental Science students from Fort Worth Country Day School learned about wildlife tracking, watershed health, and other conservation topics at the Josey Pavilion. McLean Middle School students visited Bear Creek for a field day at the end of November. We are grateful to our education partners like TWA  for using our ranches to put young Texans more in touch with their local ecosystem.

Certification process begins for Josey Pavilion

October 8, 2014 by Administrator

To be certified as a Living Building, the Betty and Clint Josey Pavilion must meet the rigorous standards set by the Living Building Challenge for one year of operation. That evaluation period officially started on October 1, 2014, and if all goes as expected, the pavilion will become the first building of its kind in the state of Texas.

Architects Lake|Flato have published an online brochure describing how the pavilion functions as a Living Building, and you can also learn more about the pavilion on our website.

The grand opening of the Josey Pavilion is coming up on November 7 and will kick off Holistic Management International’s Rendezvous 2014 and 30th Anniversary. Registration is still open for this weekend of celebration and learning for anyone interested in sustainable land management.

The new brochure describing the pavilion is available on Lake|Flato’s website.

Gainesville Daily Register features Josey Pavilion and holistic management

May 5, 2014 by Administrator

Gainesville reporter Kit Chase has two articles in this week’s Daily Register about the Dixon Water Foundation.

“We’re grass farmers basically as well as raising cattle and sheep.  We’re (also) raising our native grasses. We like to create an environment where there’s enough diversity for all of our animals. We take very good care of our land,” Dixon Water Foundation treasurer Melissa Bookhout says in the article, “Cooke County ranchers practice holistic land management.”  The article focuses on the foundation’s Lone Star Land Steward Award, in addition to giving an overview of our grazing methods at Leo and Pittman Units

The second article, “Living Building’ soon to be complete,” features the new Josey Pavilion.
