Prairie Protectors

The Prairie Protector Program involves more than 1,200 students from Aledo I.S.D. Students work with community partners and scientists in their respective fields to complete multiple field labs at the Dixon Water Foundation’s Bear Creek Unit in Aledo, Texas. In addition to completing field labs that meet state-mandated objectives, students help with land conservation and restoration projects. In 2009-2010 students reseeded 25 acres of uprooted tall grass prairie and began development of an education-based trail for fourth- and fifth-grade students. The Prairie Protector project is student led and based in Service Learning.
